Boann Distillery wins Double Gold at World’s leading Spirits Competition

Boann Distillery has claimed a major accolade, receiving a Double Gold medal and 99 points for Boann Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey – Pedro Ximénez Cask at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

This distinction is awarded only to those spirits unanimously rated exceptional by the panel, reinforcing Boann’s position as one of the most innovative and quality-driven producers in the Irish whiskey category.

The SFWSC is the world’s oldest and most respected blind-tasting competition, setting the benchmark for excellence across the global spirits industry.

The PX whiskey is one of three Single Pot Still  core expressions launchedin June 2024, each showcasing a unique cask finish—Marsala, Madeira, and Pedro Ximénez.

Nearly five years in development, the core range represents the essence of Ireland’s native whiskey style: Single Pot Still, a uniquely Irish category which is both exclusive to the island and steeped in tradition.

The spirit used to create the three new whiskeys was previously named Best New Make and Young Spirit at the World Whiskies Awards 2021.

The PX release further elevates that foundation, using rare and historic casks sourced through Boann’s Spanish cooperage partner, some of which were crafted from chestnut wood and had matured PX sherry in solera for over six decades.

“This extraordinary honour places Boann’s PX whiskey among the very finest spirits in the world. We are humbled and honoured to receive such an accolade,” said Pat Cooney, Founder of Boann Distillery.

“This recognition reflects our passion for reviving Ireland’s rich distilling heritage and the hard work of our dedicated team here in the Boyne Valley. Our Single Pot Still whiskeys are  designed to appeal to discerning consumers seeking authenticity, heritage, and innovation in equal measure.”
